From 1 January 2027, the minimum wage for Cambodia's garment, textile, footwear, travel-goods and bag sectors will rise from USD 210 to USD 212 per month, following the announcement by Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet on 30 September 2026. The increase is modest for one employee, but across an entire workforce it changes the amount employers must prepare every month for payroll. As businesses enter a new year with updated salary obligations, it is a timely opportunity to review how payroll funds are planned, managed and transferred. An efficient payroll and cash-management solution can help employers ensure salaries are paid securely and on time, while maintaining better control over liquidity and working capital.
What the 2027 Wage Change Means for Business Payroll
Under the announcement, eligible workers may receive between USD 231.50 and USD 242.50 per month with applicable attendance, transport, accommodation and seniority benefits.
The adjustment applies to the sectors named above, but payroll is a regular cash flow for every employer. Cambodia has 47,758 registered enterprises, companies and factories employing approximately 2.31 million workers, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training. Finance and HR teams must prepare funds, verify employee information, process salary payments and maintain accurate records, and any delay or error affects employees directly.
Where Payroll Costs and Cash Flow Meet
The first point is how payroll funds are planned. Salary funds need to be available on payday, so the amount reserved each month, the account where it is held and how quickly it can be accessed all matter. A long-term deposit may not suit fixed payment dates, while a non-interest-bearing account earns nothing while funds wait.
The second point is how long balances stay in the account before they are used. If funds reserved for payroll earn no interest, the business may not be making full use of the money already set aside.
The third point is the cost of moving money. Businesses that pay overseas suppliers or partners exchange currencies regularly. A helpful habit is to look beyond the displayed rate. The FX margin and any transaction fees affect the final cost, and for frequent or high-value exchanges, small differences can add up over time.
The fourth point is how payroll is processed. Preparing salaries, checking records and keeping reports clear takes time, particularly as a workforce grows.
