Along the rice field crossing several villages, people in Yea Ang commune spent more than an hour to travel 3.5 km to the main road for their daily necessities. However, that’s now a flashback from the past.

Under the patronage of Wing (Cambodia) Limited Specialised Bank, the 3.5km road restoration project started in Jan 2020 was completed and declared open on 29th February during a ceremony held in Thporng District, Kampong Speu Province.

The event was graced by Mr. Manu Rajan, Chief Executive Officer of Wing, Mr. Choeun Samphorn, Deputy Governor of Thporng District, Mr. Keo Yoeurn, Chief of Yea Ang Commune, Mr. Hor Bunthe, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Lao Sheanghai, Director of Human Resource of Wing, and Wing staffs and local community people.

At the ceremony which was participated by over 400 people living in the area, Mr. Manu Rajan opened the renovated road for public use by cutting a ribbon, gifting it for 647 households in 4 villages in Yea Ang commune.

“This road has not only created better access to essential services like accessing to finance, healthcare and education, but it also improves the local economy by connecting local products to markets,” said Mr. Manu Rajan.

“During the rainy seasons, villagers were in such a poor condition that they struggled to travel through the broken road by vehicles. Due to the difficulty of reaching markets to sell their agricultural produce and other goods, rural people are locked into subsistence farming while students also missed their classes, said Mr. Keo Yoeurn.

“Under the support of Wing, more than 2,800 individuals will be able to daily access to smooth road and it will absolutely improve their living condition. Their farming trade increase, the children are able to attend school and families have greater access to food,” said Mr. Yoeurn.

Without access rural communities face much greater obstacles in obtaining health, education and other social services. Through this donation, Wing reassures its commitment in improving daily lives of Cambodians by helping to improve accessibility which supports sustainable community development.
