Phnom Penh, 23 October 2026 – Wing Bank (Cambodia) Plc. is transitioning its employee payroll from US dollars to Khmer Riel from October 2026, turning its support for Cambodia’s national currency into action across its workforce.
The initiative supports the National Bank of Cambodia’s efforts to promote wider use of the Khmer Riel. Conducting more economic activity in the national currency can strengthen Cambodia’s monetary sovereignty and reduce reliance on foreign currencies.
“Wing is a 100% Khmer-owned bank, and the Khmer Riel represents our national identity, economic strength and monetary sovereignty,” said Dr. Dmytro Kolechko, CEO of Wing Bank. “Supporting the Riel is a responsibility that comes with who we are. By paying our employees in Riel, we are putting that responsibility into practice and building greater confidence in Cambodia’s national currency.”
Employees will receive their salaries directly into their Khmer Riel accounts. Through the Wing Bank App, they can make KHQR payments, transfer funds, pay bills and save conveniently in the national currency.
For customers and businesses, wider use of the Riel creates more opportunities to receive and make everyday payments directly in the national currency, reducing the need to convert between currencies. Customers can manage Khmer Riel conveniently through the Wing Bank App, Wing Bank branches and the nationwide network of Wing agents.
This shift comes as the Khmer Riel continues to gain ground in digital payments. According to NBC’s 2025 annual report, the Bakong payment system processed 771 million transactions in Khmer Riel, compared with 554 million in US dollars.
Building on this national progress, the initiative reflects Wing Bank’s long-term commitment to strengthening confidence in the Khmer Riel and making it a greater part of everyday financial life across Cambodia.
