Wing Bank Backs Angkor Sankranta 2025 to Promote Khmer Culture Among Youth
April 16, 2025Wing Bank joins thousands in Siem Reap to celebrate Khmer New Year with cultural activities, traditional games, and youth engagement initiatives.
Wing Bank has extended its support to this year’s Angkor Sankranta celebration in Siem Reap, joining a nationwide effort to promote Khmer culture and traditions among Cambodian youth during the Khmer New Year festival held from April 14 to 16, 2025.
Speaking about the bank’s involvement, Bunthe Hor, Deputy CEO of Wing Bank, emphasized the importance of cultural preservation. “At Wing Bank, we believe that preserving our cultural identity is essential to building a strong and united Cambodia.”
“Supporting events like Angkor Sankranta allows us to invest in the heart of our nation—our people, our heritage, and especially our youth. It is through culture that we stay connected to our roots, and through opportunity that we build a stronger future,” he added.
“As a proud Cambodian bank, Wing Bank is deeply committed to contributing to national development—not only through financial inclusion and economic growth, but also through the promotion of culture and tourism,” he added.
A Major Celebration of Khmer Heritage
Held annually in the historic province of Siem Reap, Angkor Sankranta is one of Cambodia’s largest cultural events. Organized by the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), the celebration brings together thousands of locals and international visitors to honor Khmer New Year through a vibrant program of traditional performances, folk games, culinary experiences, and cultural exhibitions.
This year’s festivities took place at key sites including the Angkor Wat temple complex and Steung Siem Reap, showcasing cultural activities such as Apsara dance, L’bokator martial arts, and traditional games. Guests also enjoyed Khmer musical performances, local cuisine, and exhibitions of handicrafts and cultural displays.
Wing Bank’s Engagement at the Heart of the Festival
Wing Bank contributed to the festivities with two interactive booths located at Angkor Wat Temple Complex and Steung Siem Reap. These spaces offered visitors a chance to play fun games, engage with educational content on financial literacy, and enjoy a more dynamic festival experience.
“The booths added an extra layer of excitement to the celebration,” said Monypheak Reth, an employee of a private company. “They brought together tradition and modern engagement in a fun and meaningful way.”
Festivalgoers noted that the event was not only entertaining but also educational, especially for young people. “It’s important for us to reconnect with our heritage,” said Oudom Von, an employee of a private company attending the event. “It makes me proud to be Khmer.”
Expanding Cultural Support Beyond Siem Reap
In addition to its presence in Siem Reap, Wing Bank also supported Khmer New Year celebrations across Phnom Penh, including at BELTEI International University, the Royal University of Law and Economics, the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, and the National Technical Training Institute. These efforts aimed to engage students and youth in meaningful cultural activities, strengthening their connection to Khmer identity.
A Legacy of Cultural Revival
Launched in 2013, Angkor Sankranta has grown into a national celebration and a central fixture of Khmer New Year festivities. It is widely regarded as a model for how cultural heritage can be revitalized through community participation and tourism.
Wing Bank’s ongoing support for such initiatives reflects its broader mission to contribute to social development, cultural preservation, and the empowerment of Cambodian youth.
