Cambodia Women Entrepreneurs Association, Cambodian Children’s Fund, and Wing Bank Unite to Foster Greater Support for Women

Across Cambodia, women are not only the backbone of families but also key drivers of the nation’s progress. From building businesses and embracing technology to stepping into leadership roles in traditionally male-dominated spaces, women are reshaping Cambodia’s future. However, the journey toward equality and opportunity remains challenging for many.

Today, 56% of Wing Bank’s employees and agents are women. Wing Bank provides them with job opportunities as employees, Wing Cash Express Agents, and Wing Master Agents. Through these roles, these women are able to earn a sustainable income to support their families while also expanding their capacity to deliver essential financial services to their communities. Many of these agents are working mothers who balance the responsibilities of caring for their families with the need to generate income. Wing Bank’s initiatives not only contribute to the financial independence of these women but also strengthen the economic fabric of the communities they serve.

Supporting Women Entrepreneurs

Cambodia has made significant strides in empowering women, particularly in entrepreneurship. Today, more women have access to education, economic opportunities, and support networks essential for running successful businesses.

“At CWEA, we believe that empowering women entrepreneurs is not just a matter of improving business outcomes for women, it’s about creating a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future for Cambodia as a whole,” said Ms. Sun Sihanithnovy, Vice President of the Cambodia Women Entrepreneurs Association (CWEA).

Despite progress, challenges remain. Women entrepreneurs often face barriers such as limited access to finance, mentorship, and networking opportunities. To address these issues, Wing Bank and CWEA partnered last year to launch financial education programs and workshops. These initiatives aim to tackle one of the most significant obstacles women faces: a lack of financial literacy.

“Looking ahead, we must remain focused on strengthening the visibility of women in leadership roles, providing more access to education and training, and ensuring that women have equal opportunities to succeed in every field of entrepreneurship,” added Ms. Sun Sihanithnovy.

Equipping Girls with STEM Skills to Lead Tomorrow

Empowering women and girls have far-reaching benefits, fostering a fairer and more prosperous society. This is particularly true in areas like education, health, economic development, and reducing violence against women. In Cambodia, where many women lead single-parent households, their role in securing a better future for their children is pivotal.

“The most important empowerment of girls and women is through education. Girls and women need to be encouraged and supported in the pursuit of education to their fullest potential so they can then enter society and the workforce and take their rightful place in the world,” said Mr. Scott Neeson, Founder and Executive Director of the Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF).

Wing Bank and CCF have joined forces to empower young girls from some of Cambodia’s most marginalized communities. Their newly launched STEM Education Program provides at-risk girls with access to education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), along with internship opportunities that prepare them for future careers in these fields.

The initiative supports 138 students at CCF’s Tomorrow Academy, including 88 girls, offering them a pathway to educational excellence and career opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach. Each year, 10 students are selected for internships, gaining hands-on experience that equips them for the workforce.

“Women should be proud of and encouraged by the steps they have already taken and the current momentum. There is a far greater awareness of women’s critical role in society, including education, ethics, values, and the workplace,” added Mr. Neeson.
