Wing Bank (Cambodia) Plc employees donated 1.5 tons of rice, daily necessities and cash to Wat Khemavanta, also known as Wat Khsam, in Kampong Chhnang Province on October 3, marking the bank's seventh Kan Ben celebration and Cambodia's Elderly Day.

More than 100 employees travelled to the pagoda, presented offerings to monks in memory of their ancestors, and helped prepare food for over 200 monks, nuns and achars. They also gave financial assistance and essential items to older people at the pagoda.

The pagoda received 50 cases of drinking water, 5 cases of canned fish, 60 cases of dried noodles and KHR 2,931,500 in cash. Each of the 50 nuns and achars also received a krama, a sarong and KHR 20,000.

Kan Ben is a time when families remember their ancestors, and this year, Wing Bank also cared for the older generation by providing care and support.

“I appreciate Wing Bank for giving us the opportunity to make merit together and honour our ancestors during Kan Ben. Joining older people at the pagoda and offering them support made the day especially meaningful. It allowed us to give back to the community while taking part in a tradition that holds a special place in our culture,” said Puthea Bin, an employee at Wing Bank.

Pchum Ben is a 15-day observance in which families visit pagodas, offer food to monks and pray for relatives who have passed away. The first 14 days are known as Kan Ben, and Pchum Ben falls on the final day.

Cash remains part of how Cambodians give at the pagoda, as the KHR 2,931,500 donated at Wat Khsam shows. Giving at pagodas is also becoming more convenient through digital payments. Alongside cash donations, Wing Bank KHQR allows visitors to scan a pagoda's KHQR code using the Wing Bank App and make their offering digitally.

Pagodas and communities that want to accept KHQR donations can contact any Wing Bank branch or call 023 999 989. Branch teams will guide them through the setup.
