Investing in Success: Sokhea’s Thriving Koh Kong Car Workshop

Published on: Sep 05, 2025

Koh Kong’s Yeun Sokhea, 35, proves that passion pays off. As the owner of a car workshop, he loved fixing cars from a young age, dropping out of school early to learn how to repair motorcycles and cars, and later making a career of it, adding that his success also came from sound financial management.

Yeun Sokhea is the owner of Sokhea Auto and Mister Clean Car Care Garage in Phum Ti Muoy of Krong Khemara Phumin in Koh Kong province, where he was born. Having opened the business five years ago, Sokhea is happy to see that his passion for car repair, which he harboured since a young age, drove him to success.

As the third of six siblings, the now 35-year-old dropped out of school after Grade 10 and moved to Phnom Penh at around the age of 14 to learn how to repair motorcycles. He later switched to other vehicles, mainly cars.

Speaking to Kiripost recently, he said, “I love repairing vehicles as it is a good market for business and easy to earn an income to support my family. There is also a rising demand for car workshops in Koh Kong.

“I used to be a motorcycle mechanic, but I quit doing that and now focus on repairing and providing services for cars.”

Since he started repairing motorcycles and cars, Sokhea has amassed 15 years of experience, including running his business for five years. He chose to run his business in Koh Kong because h

e thought he might fail if he opened in the capital city as it is very competitive.

He recalled the time he started his business in 2020 and being hit by Covid-19 two months later. “It was a challenge. Anyway, all the struggles were resolved because of my commitment to keep the business going,” he shared.

Sokhea provides various automotive services to customers to ensure complete vehicle maintenance and optimal performance, such as car polish, air conditioner repair, car mat washing, computerised car analysis and oil change.

Recently, Wing Bank officially launched its new branch in Koh Kong provincial town in the vicinity of Sokhea’s car workshop.

Bunthe said Sokhea had a proper plan before he borrowed from Wing Bank, and was able to expand his business, and increase his income.

According to the bank, most businesses that borrowed from Wing Bank showed positive growth. It attributed the rise to checks of financial statements, business plans and purpose of the loan by credit officers, as well as the ability to repay loans.
